“Lana” means “wool” in Spanish and it's a Mexican slang term for money. In colonial Mexico (where the term originated) raising sheep for their wool was an incredibly lucrative trade and “wool” was tantamount to “money”.

Talking to Vogue, she once explained how she picked her stage name. “I wanted a name I could shape the music towards. I was going to Miami quite a lot at the time, speaking a lot of Spanish with my friends from Cuba – Lana Del Rey reminded us of the glamour of the seaside.

Although it has been rising steadily since the early 2000s, Lana still sits in the popularity "sweet spot" – familiar, but not overused. Simple, sleek and seamlessly international, it makes a great choice.

Del Rey is known to be a fan of the club, and has attended matches at Anfield. In December 2020, it was reported that she was engaged to musician Clayton Johnson. On March 19, 2021, Del Rey released her seventh studio album, Chemtrails over the Country Club, to critical acclaim.
